Suffolk and Norfolk Initial Teacher Training

High quality teacher training in local schools

Graduate Teacher Programme Funding

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PLACES AVAILABLE FOR SEPTEMBER 2012.

The majority of our trainees are eligible for a salary grant and training grant, which means that throughout their training period the school receives a grant to cover the majority of the trainee’s salary (point one on the unqualified teacher scale). Trainees are contracted to their main placement school and receive a salary from September 1st to June 15th.  The school also receives an additional training grant to help to cover any additional training costs that might be incurred. These trainees should be supernumerary and should not have sole responsibility for classes.

For those people who already work full time in a school as instructors and wish to continue to do so whilst training towards QTS, a training grant only may be available to the school, but no salary grant is available. Therefore, the school will bear the full cost of the trainee’s salary. These trainees are required to attend the Core Training Programme and Subject Training Programmes and should be timetabled for no more than 13 hours per week.

There are a few school funded places available, where the school pays the Suffolk and Norfolk Accredited Provider for the training and assessment of a trainee. In this case the school bears the full costs of trainee salary, training and assessment. This training route is sometimes used by schools and candidates in the independent sector.
